SMS Check-In Opt-In Workflow
How users opt in to coaching check-in text messages, the exact disclosure they see, and how to opt out.
What Impela texts about
Impela is a coaching product. After a user opts in, we send transactional check-in messages tied to the user’s own coaching activity:
- Reminders about commitments the user articulated in a coaching session
- Brief check-ins about how a planned action went
- Notifications when a coaching artifact (plan, reflection, decision matrix) is ready
- Periodic prompts to return to the app for the next session
We do notsend marketing, promotional, or third-party content over SMS. Messages are tied 1:1 to the user’s own coaching engagement.
Frequency. Typically 1–3 messages per week, depending on how active the user is. Most users receive fewer than 10 messages per month.
How users opt in
- The user creates an account at https://impela.ai and completes their first coaching session. (No phone number is collected at signup. SMS opt-in is a separate, affirmative action.)
- After the user’s first session ends, an in-app modal appears asking if they’d like to receive coach check-ins by text. The modal displays the verbatim consent disclosure shown below.
- The user enters their phone number, reads the disclosure, and checks an explicit consent box(not pre-checked). Without checking the box, the “Send me check-ins” button stays disabled.
- On submit, we send a 6-digit verification code to the phone number. The user enters the code to verify ownership. No SMS messages are sent to the user until verification succeeds.
- The user can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any Impela text or by toggling SMS off in their account Settings page.

This is a faithful reproduction of the in-app opt-in modal. All copy below is exactly what the user reads before consenting.

Follow-through improves for many people when their coach checks in between sessions. You can turn this off anytime in Settings.

Disclosure version: v1.2026-05-01. We record which disclosure version each user agreed to, with a timestamp.

How to opt out
Reply STOPto any Impela text message. We send a single confirmation reply (“You’ve been unsubscribed and will no longer receive Impela texts. Reply START to resume.”) and stop sending immediately.
Users can also disable SMS in-app at https://impela.ai/settings (account login required).
Privacy & data handling
Phone numbers collected for SMS check-ins are never sold, never rented, and never shared with third parties for marketing. We use the number for one purpose only: sending the user’s own coaching check-ins.
